The audience Bambi

Five films would be voted on for the 2007 audience Bambi: Africa, mon amour , The Escape , The Woman from Checkpoint Charlie , The Mysterious Treasure of Troy and Tarragona - A Paradise in Flames . The Bambi went to Die Flucht with 43% of the vote ; it was received by the main actress Maria Furtwängler , the wife of the organizer Hubert Burda .

The surprise Bambi

Johannes Heesters had already received his fourth Bambi in 1997 , the one for his life's work. In 2003, a few days before his 100th birthday, he received an honorary bambi. For 2007 he was given another Bambi by the Bunte editor-in-chief Patricia Riekel , for which the name surprise Bambi had been found. Riekel came out as a big fan of Johannes Heesters and told the almost 104-year-old that he would now receive one every time he came to the Bambi Awards.

A Bambi for Tom Cruise

Even Tom Cruise received a Bambi, specifically for the film Valkyrie - The Stauffenberg assassination in the category Courage . In the laudation, Frank Schirrmacher , then editor of the FAZ , found enthusiastic words for it. "With his decision to lend his face to Graf Stauffenberg", Tom Cruise will "change the image that the world has of us Germans." "With Tom Cruise's courageous decision to play this role," becomes "Stauffenberg's concern" to "save the country's reputation, especially abroad", has still been achieved. So it could be understood, "that one can resist the inhuman, and that heroism and a humane attitude are even more important than the success of an act." He also found the decision to give Cruise this Bambi courageous and added that it was " right, yes, absolutely. ”The honored one thanked him extensively for almost a quarter of an hour. The speech actually lasted “only” seven minutes and 53 seconds, but it was the longest acceptance speech in Bambi history.

For the FAZ, the evening was "approaching its real climax, as it opened up to international film history." There is no doubt that Tom Cruise was "the most important winner of this year's Bambi Awards" and "one of the most beautiful awards Category “received: Courage. The FAZ was alone with this opinion.

The other newspapers gladly quoted a statement by Heiner Lauterbach from the award ceremony: “To make a film and get 50 million dollars for it - I think there are more courageous things.” The star pointed out that no one has yet made the film, “the should come to the cinema next summer ”(in fact, the film had its world premiere on December 15, 2008, in Europe it was shown from January 20, 2009). The decision “to give the mime a Bambi for his role, so to speak,” seemed “extremely strange - not to mention the chosen category 'courage'”. But one was particularly astonished by Schirrmacher's laudation.

Markus Ehrenberg from the Tagesspiegel was also amazed at “[s] o much pathos” and pointed out Tom Cruise's membership in “the not always so fine Scientology sect”.

Markus Brauck and Thomas Tuma presented their own awards on New Year's Eve 2007 in Spiegel magazine . They gave Burda the prize for the stupidest prize for the Bambi to Tom Cruise, but saw that it was difficult "if you have a prize and a celebrity, but no reason." They also awarded Frank Schirrmacher the withered laurel " for the silliest eulogy ”and Tom Cruise the award for the craziest prize winner .
