Bambi Awards 1948

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1st Bambi Awards were not an event. The Bambis were delivered to the winners' homes.

The prices

In the early years of the Bambi, the awards were informal; there was no event about it. Instead, the prizes, then porcelain deer statues , were delivered to the winners.

The first winner

The first Bambi (who didn't have a name at the time) in the Actress category went to Marika Rökk . She won the vote with 16.5% of the vote, followed by Phyllis Calvert with 7.1% and Margaret Lockwood with 6.3%. When Marika Rökk brought her prize home for the first time, her then four-year-old daughter Gaby is said to have been enthusiastic about it and exclaimed “Oh, that looks like Bambi!” Since the second award in 1949 , the prize has been called Bambi .

Jean Marais or Stewart Granger?

The question of who won the first Bambi in the actor category is unanswered. For a long time, Jean Marais was the winner of the 1948 award. For example, he was invited to the Bambi Awards in 1998 to appear as a laudator for Marika Rökk, who won an anniversary bambi , at the award ceremony for the 50th anniversary. The Bambi winner for 1948 was in question when the results of the public vote were published. Stewart Granger had the most votes with 21.8%. Jean Marais came in second with 12.7%, ahead of Wolf Albach-Retty with 5.8% and Johannes Heesters . Since then, Stewart Granger has often been named the winner. Bambi.de itself continues to list Jean Marais in the prize winners database for 1948.

The movies

According to Filmportal.de , in 1948 Bambis went to the films Ehe im Schatten , directed by Kurt Maetzig, as the most artistically valuable German post-war film and to Untitled Film , produced by Helmut Käutner , as the most commercially successful German post-war film . This suggests that Maetzig and Käutner received Bambis in 1948, but only Kurt Maetzig can be found in Bambi.de's award winner database.
