Europe

Germany

The Reichstag election in 1893 was the election for the 9th German Reichstag . It took place on June 15, 1893 and became necessary after the Reichstag was dissolved on May 6, 1893 at the request of Chancellor Leo von Caprivi . The turnout was a little over 72% and thus slightly higher than in the Reichstag election in 1890 . The election ended with a narrow victory for the government- loyal so-called " cartel parties " ( German conservatives , free conservatives and national liberals ). The new Reichstag finally accepted the government's army bill with a narrow majority (201 votes).

Switzerland

The Swiss parliamentary elections in 1893 took place on October 29, 1893. There were 147 seats in the National Council for election . The elections were made according to the majority voting system, with the country being divided into 52 national council constituencies of different sizes . The liberals (or radical liberals) maintained their position as the strongest force. The Catholic Conservatives suffered significant losses, from which the liberal center in particular benefited. The newly elected parliament met for the first time in the 16th legislative period on December 4, 1893.
