The elections listed below took place in 2017 . The list does not claim to be complete.
Some of the elections listed were not conducted according to internationally recognized democratic standards. Some were bogus elections ; there was also election fraud . Often not all competing candidates or parties had equal access to the country's mass media . The freedom of the press is restricted in many countries around the world (see also the ranking of press freedom ).
