The elections and referendums listed here should or have taken place in 1945 . Far from all of the elections listed were conducted according to internationally recognized democratic standards. This list also contains bogus elections in dictatorships without alternative candidates or elections which, based on the prevailing political situation, can be foreseen that they were brought about through massive electoral fraud or without fair, equal access of the competing candidates or parties to the mass media.
Due to the large number of elections that are held worldwide each year, the list cannot claim to be exhaustive. The aim is to list all elections of supraregional interest.
