The elections and referendums listed here took place in 2011 or were scheduled for the date shown. “ Direct election ”, “ referendum ” or “referendum” means an election by all eligible residents of a country or region. “Indirect election” means an election by state organs such as B. Parliaments or bodies made up of electorates . Far from all of the elections listed here were conducted according to internationally recognized democratic standards. It also includes sham elections in dictatorships without alternative candidates or elections whose results were achieved through massive electoral fraud or without fair, equal access of the competing candidates or parties to the mass media.
