history

The area of today's town was originally a large forest area that belonged to the Schönwalde manor . Poststrasse ran through it from Berlin to Hamburg and had a horse station. The building from 1784 has been preserved to this day.

Around 1900 further plots of land were created near the stone bridge. In 1932, the then manor owner Reinhard von Risselmann sold part of the forest area to a real estate agent from Berlin-Westend. He parceled it out and sold it. Many workers from the area built their own properties there. The settlement became independent in 1932 as the seaside resort Schönwalde . In 1933 a small lake was deepened to about 2.50 meters and provided with a diving platform in the middle at four meters depth. The lido was opened in 1934. After a few years there were around 1,500 residents in the settlement.

Since 1949 the place was on the state border with West Berlin and had border guards accommodations. Some people died trying to escape.

Since 1992 Schönwalde-Siedlung belonged to the office of Schönwalde-Glien as part of the community Schönwalde . On October 26, 2003, Schönwalde was merged with five other municipalities to form the new municipality of Schönwalde-Glien, since then Schönwalde-Dorf and Schönwalde-Siedlung have been independent districts. Numerous new residential buildings and a shopping and supply center were built in the village.

traffic

Schönwalde-Siedlung is connected to surrounding towns via several country roads, including the L 16 and L 20.
