Town center

Schafhausen is the oldest and at the same time smallest district of Alzey. The name ending indicates the establishment of the place in an early medieval expansion phase of the Franconian settlement. At the same time as Alzey, in a document from 897 it was first mentioned in writing in the form of Scafhuson , which means something like "settlement to the sheep stables", according to which Schafhausen belonged to the realm complex around Alzey.

The Palatinate Lion as a reference to the city of Alzey. The shepherd with sheep in relation to the local legend. The grape because of predominantly viticulture.

Economy and Infrastructure

Alzey-Schafhausen is a rural wine-growing town.

traffic

Quad meeting

Since 1995 there has been a bypass road south of the village, so that the main traffic from Alzey and the A 61 to Framersheim and Gau-Odernheim no longer has to drive through the small town. The L 406 bypass is part of the Deutsche Alleenstraße and was partly built on the route of the Alzey – Bodenheim railway line (popularly known as Amiche ).

The district belongs to the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN). For connections to and from the Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund (RNN) area, this tariff can also be used to Alzey. The main bus connection is the ORN line 660 Mainz – Alzey , with additional trips to Wörrstadt on school days.
