Location of Heimersheim in Rhineland-Palatinate

Heimersheim is a part of the city of Alzey that was incorporated in 1972 .

Heimersheim is located on a hollow on a slope, by a stream and the historic Mauritius Church (1479) is on a hill. The place with its clearly legible medieval village character is framed by vine-covered slopes, the "Sonnenberg". Today there are still over 30 Franconian farms in Heimersheim. The two new development areas “Am Weinheimer Berg” and “Mauritiusstraße” belong to Heimersheim.

geography

location

Heimersheim is located in the Rheinhessen hill country on the Heimersheimer Bach in the southwest corner of Rheinhessen , three kilometers away from the district town of Alzey, in the middle of a valley basin that is surrounded by vineyards and fertile fields.

The Engbach flows through the village, the source of which is in the Oberwiese, a hill to the right of the Heimersheim-Weinheim road. This small body of water then takes its way in the direction of Albig , flows south past Biebelnheim and flows into the Selz above Bechtolsheim , which flows into the Rhine at Ingelheim.

coat of arms

The coat of arms is not officially awarded. It shows the seal of the court in Heimersheim, handed down from 1655.

The meaning of the coat of arms is still not fully understood today, as there are no descriptions from the time of its creation. According to the latest view, the coat of arms next to the bar with the letters HEY shows three hunched Roman shields, which indicate the three Roman legionaries and martyrs Mauritius, Kanditus and Exsuperius, who are also the patrons of the Catholic parish church. This motif is combined in the coat of arms with the reference to the place name.

Culture and sights

The Romanesque Mauritius Church from 1479 was secured with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection in the years 2006 to 2007: the church tower was out of alignment and threatened to collapse, the wall of the south aisle had loosened and inclined 40 centimeters.

About 800 meters south of the village is the "Wingertshaisje", a 7 meter high vineyard and observation tower built in 1993 as part of the land consolidation .
