geography

The treasure stone towards Gruenhain seen

The Schatzenstein is located immediately northwest of the town of Elterlein on the municipal borders with Zwönitz and Grünhain-Beierfeld in the Grünhain Forest. The Schatzenstein area is a popular hiking destination with several phyllite cliffs up to ten meters high . Due to the dense forest, however, there is hardly any distant view.

The height of the Schatzenstein forms a watershed from which the Zwönitz rises, which later forms part of the Chemnitz . The other part drains through various watercourses such as the Oswaldbach into the Schwarzwasser . Both are important tributaries of the Zwickauer Mulde . The headwaters of the Zwönitz include a variety of springs. One of these springs was bordered in 1995 and a rest area was created around it.

history

At the highest point of the Schatzenstein is a column of the Royal Saxon Triangulation and in the rock there is a memorial plaque for the dialect poet Max Schreyer , on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the composition of his famous song Dar Vuglbärbaam . Max Schreyer was the chief forester of this area between 1887 and 1893.
