The Schaufelbach is a little over 2 km long brook along the municipal boundary between Obersontheim and Bühlerzell in the Schwäbisch Hall district in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows north-east about a kilometer downstream from Obersontheim- Unterfischach from the right into the lower Fischach . Its upper course is called the Altersbach .

geography

course

The Altersbach arises in an initially gently sloping forest hollow on the border of the districts of Mittelfischach (Obersontheim municipality) and Geifertshofen (Bühlerzell municipality), which extends in the Limpurger Mountains between the main protrusion of the Göbelsrains to the east to the Geifertshofener Weißenhof and the shorter northeast foothills to the Unterfischacher Ameisenbühl sinks east of the old stable . It rises at about 455  m above sea level. NN and initially flows eastwards for a short time, then swings more and more to the northeast. After about 0.7 km it comes south of the Steigenhohlweg from Ameisenbühl to Gögelsrain at about 414  m above sea level. NN for the first time to the edge of the forest.

Here Bach has a noticeable inflow only once, namely from a nameless and in length as the catchment area not much smaller left upper reaches from the left and west. This approximately 0.4 km long forest stream rises in the Gewann Röt at about 438  m above sea level. NN and drains about 0.2 km², the Alterbach has only 0.3 km² here.

For 200 meters, the Schaufelbach created in this way is now accompanied on the left by a narrow wet meadow band on which marsh marigolds bloom in spring . After the stream has crossed a farm road, the forest stretches over it again for about 400 meters to the left foot of the slope. Then there is another meadow on the left, while on the right of the brook a narrow forest edge stretches to Geifersthofener Eselsfeld almost as far as K 2627. On this section the stream already flows in a drawn ditch next to a dirt road. On the other side of the county road, this ditch runs in a straight line, with very little gradient and without trees or bushes through the right meadow meadow of the lower Fischach , into which, opposite the Leippersberg, after another quarter of a kilometer from the right and at a right angle to about 380  m above sea level. NN flows.

Catchment area and geology

The creek from Altersbach and Schaufelbach is together 2.1 km long and has a relative mean bed gradient of approx. 36 ‰ with an absolute gradient of about 75 meters. Its catchment area of around 1.2 km² borders on the left of that of the hamlet of Bach behind the ridge between Altes Stall and Ameisenbühl, which flows into the Fischach a little above in Unterfischach, and on the right of that of the Kochklingenbach behind the main Göbelsrain, which flows over the Schleifseebach to the Fischach -Vorfluter Buhler tapers.

Around three quarters of the catchment area is forested, this part belongs to the Limpurger Berge sub-area (No. 108.60), the smaller part of the land in the area near the mouth to the Fischach Bay and Randhöhen sub-area (No. 108.61) of the natural spatial main unit of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains (No. 108).

Geologically speaking, the stream and catchment area lie in the Mittelkeuper . Both stream spring branches arise in a relatively wide reed sandstone band ( Stuttgart Formation ), whose banky rock deposited in floodfacies is exposed in the aforementioned hollow path. On the larger part of the course, the brook then runs through the Gipskeuper ( grave field formation ), initially for a long time through its estheria layers. The plateaus of the Göbelsrain branches extend over the lower colored marl ( Steigerwald formation ) up to the silica sandstone ( Hassberge formation ), the highest layer in the catchment area.

The slightly smaller north-eastern part of the catchment area up to the main course belongs to the district of Mittelfischach in the municipality of Obersontheim and comprises the largest part of the open corridor, the southeastern part of the district of Geifertshofen in the municipality of Bühlerzell is almost entirely wooded. There is no settlement anywhere.

Protected area

The open area of the catchment area is located in the Fischachtal landscape protection area with side valleys and adjacent areas between Herlebach and Kottspiel .
