history

inside view

After the Second World War , refugees of the Catholic faith settled in the Protestant village of Dettenheim. The Leitzmeritz cathedral capitular Georg Zischek (* February 16, 1892 - September 14, 1979), appointed by Eichstätter Bishop Michael Rackl as a refugee pastor of the Eichstätt diocese on June 30, 1946 , brought Josef Dürmuth, former pastor of Gottesgab in the Ore Mountains , to Dettenheim as a permanent pastor . The services were held in the Blue Hall of the privately owned Dettenheimer Schlösschen . After Dürmuths death in 1956 took over Ellinger Kaplan Gregory cutting († April 20, 1967 as pastor of market Berolzheim ) as curate pastoral care in Dettenheim. The services were oppressively cramped. Finally, curate Schneid managed to convert part of a barn belonging to the Dettenheimer Schlösschen into a permanent church service room. One wall was broken through, an annex was built for the choir and sacristy and the attic was redesigned into a gallery. Kurat Schneid acted not only as the client, but also as an architect, technician, bricklayer, carpenter and artist. The community of Dettenheim supported the renovation with material and the Protestant population with work. The unusual church that emerged and the ecumenical cooperation that was no less unusual at the time during its establishment was widely echoed in daily newspapers and magazines.

The inauguration took place on December 23, 1956 by the Eichstätter Dompropst Dr. Ludwig Bruggaier in the presence of guests of honor from church and public life. Since 1976 the barn church has been looked after by the Catholic parish of St. Willibald in Weißenburg. In 2007 there were 74 Catholics in the Dettenheim pastoral care office.
