Shevchenkoe ( Ukrainian евченкове ; Russian russевченково Shevchenko ) is a village in the Ukrainian Oblast of Cherkassy with about 2800 inhabitants (2001).
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1618, was called Kyryliwka ( Кирилівка ) until 1929 . It was then named after the Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko because his family moved with him when he was around two years old to his father's birthplace and he spent the next 12 years of his childhood in the village.
Schewtschenkowe is the administrative center of the same District municipality in the northeast of Rayon Zvenyhorodka , with a total of 3000 inhabitants still the village Demkowe ( Демкове , ⊙ ) with 100 residents and the settlement Kononowe-Iwassiw ( Кононове-Івасів , ⊙ ) with about 140 Owned by residents.
The village is located in the center of Ukraine on the watershed between the Southern Bug flowing Hnyly Tikych and Wilschanka ( Вільшанка ), a 106 km long right tributary of the Dnieper River , 20 km northeast of the Rajonzentrum Zvenyhorodka and 92 km southwest of the Oblastzentrum Cherkassy .
The regional road P-64 and the territorial road T-24-08 run through the village .
