brawl
A brawl is a violent dispute between two or more people.
In German criminal law , a brawl is defined as a conflict between at least three people that involves mutual bodily harm. In the Swiss Criminal Code , the relevant offense is called brawling and also requires at least three participants, as does the Austrian Criminal Code , which uses both terms side by side without distinction.
Emergence
Mostly men fight . An American study found a connection between testosterone , juvenile development and violent confrontation. Rivalry , insults , injured honor and alcohol consumption encourage the corresponding propensity for violence . In the German dictionary of the Brothers Grimm it says that it is “the beatings out of the war, mostly by drunk people”. Mass brawls are a phenomenon of the masses (sociology) . However, thugs in particular can also be an instrument of coercion or the exercise of power.
In the time of National Socialism , fights were used to exercise political power and apparently legalized by tolerating the state outside of the current legal system.
A “wonderful” Christmas brawl in a harbor pub can be found in Wind der Welt by Blaise Cendrars .
Legal
A brawl in Germany can be criminally relevant according to § 222 of the Criminal Code ( negligent homicide ) , § 223 StGB ( bodily harm ) and § 224 StGB ( dangerous bodily harm ) . If at least three people are involved and the brawl results in serious bodily harm or death, Section 231 of the Criminal Code ( participation in a brawl ) is often relevant.
Brawl in the movie
Similar to shootings and car chases , the brawl is a cinematic stylistic device. It appears in numerous film genres such as slapstick comedies , westerns , crime novels, and action films . In the films with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, but also Jackie Chan , brawls are used as a means of exaggeration and a comic element.
