Afrocarpus gracilior ( Afrocarpus gracilior ) is a plant from the genus of afrocarpus ( Afrocarpus ) in the family of podocarpaceae (Podocarpaceae). It occurs in northeastern to eastern tropical Africa.

Vegetative characteristics

The slim Afro yellowwood grows as an evergreen tree and reaches heights of over 20 meters. The bark of the trunk is smooth and purple in color. The leaves are up to 2 inches long and slender.

Generative characteristics

The seeds are enclosed in an aril and are similar to those of the species Common Afro Yellowwood ( Afrocarpus falcatus ), but when ripe the aril is red-brown.

Occurrence

Afrocarpus gracilior occurs in northeastern to eastern tropical Africa in Ethiopia , Kenya , Tanzania , Uganda and perhaps Sudan. It thrives in higher forests.

Systematics

The first description was in 1903 by the German botanist Robert Knud Friedrich Pilger in Adolf Engler's work Das Pflanzenreich , 4, 5, booklet 18, page 71. David John de Laubenfels classified this species in 1969 under the name Decussocarpus gracilior in Journal of the Arnold Arboretum , Volume 50, page 359 of the genus Decussocarpus . The botanist Christopher Nigel Page placed this species in Notes from the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh , Volume 45, page 383 in 1988 under the accepted name Afrocarpus gracilior in the genus Afrocarpus .
