The Strullendorf lock was built between July 1964 and March 1967 as part of the construction of the Main-Danube Canal federal waterway . It is as economic sluice designed with a saving basins southwest of the lock basin. Shortly before the lock, the power station canal branches off to the Hirschaid power station to the west.

The chamber of the ship's single lock is at canal kilometer 13.29, has a chamber length of 200 m, a usable length of 190 m and a usable width of 12 m. The lock has its own command post, but has been remote-controlled from the WSV's district control center in Neuses an der Regnitz since 2007 . The Forchheim , Hausen and Bamberg locks are also remotely controlled from there. From 2024, twelve locks will be controlled from the Nuremberg control center , and later all 16 canal locks.
Except in the event of malfunctions such as accidents, maintenance work or ice drift, the lock is operational around the clock all year round and is illuminated at night. The upper and lower water each-ports for which there are commercial vessels , waiting places with station for the recreational boating and boat ramps for small vehicles . Small vehicles are only handled during the day and usually together with large shipping. Muscle-powered watercraft are not channeled; A transport trolley with a deposit is available for manual transfer at the slip points.
Breakdowns
- On June 5, 2012, the captain of a goods motor ship went overboard while mooring in the lock and was subsequently killed by drowning. A first aider rushed to the scene of the accident was also injured during the rescue attempt.
- On October 29, 2017, an almost fully occupied cruise ship wrecked the railway bridge leading over the northern lock base because the wheelhouse was not lowered. The travelers and crew members got away with the horror.
- On February 6, 2018, an excessively long push convoy was stopped at the lock. None of the crew members knew the German language , so the language barrier prevented the issuing of the necessary special permit.
