The Voßwinkel lock is a boat lock on the Kammer Canal , a section of the Upper Havel waterway . It is located in the Vosswinkel district of the Userin municipality , in the south of the Mecklenburg Lake District .
General
The lock was built in 1840 according to the Finow measure and replaced by a new building in 1960. It balances the water level between the Woblitzsee and the Zierker See (mean drop height 1.76 m) and must be passed on the federal waterway to Neustrelitz . The lock chamber is 43.15 m long, 5.34 m wide and is closed with mortise gates . The lock keeper's house is one of the listed buildings of the community.
The Voßwinkel lock is operated by the Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office and can be used by excursion and pleasure boats from mid-March to the end of November at certain times.
In the period from October 2014 to March 2015, the building was extensively renovated, modernized and converted into a self-service gate. After a four-week trial operation, it went into operation in May 2015 as the region's first unmanned lock.
An approximately 90 meter long boat tow has been running parallel to the lock since 1960 . It saves the need to lock canoes and rowing boats , especially when the water levels in the upper reaches of the Havel are critical . In addition, the boat tow can also be used outside of the lock operating hours. The facility was renewed at the beginning of 2004.
