The Castle Drahthammer is a listed former Hammer castle in the Upper Palatinate town of Amberg in Bavaria . The former Hammerherrensitz has been partially preserved and now houses a hotel, the so-called Drahthammer Schlöß'l .

history

The citizens of Amberg had been confirmed by Emperor Ludwig in 1325 that they should not be summoned in front of any other Landschranne than "which is called to the Aychenenstauden", that was south of Amberg near the Neumühle, which later assumed the name Drahthammer. This Neumühle or wire hammer must not be confused with the Neumühle above Amberg, which was converted into an iron hammer as early as 1326 .

In Drahthammer or Neuenmühl there was also an ironworks which was fed by the water of the Vils and which probably specialized in wire production ; the work passed in the 17th century. From a report by Johann German Barbing to the Elector Ferdinand Maria of January 16, 1666, it says about the wire hammer: “Tradthammer. A wire hammer located next to the city of Amberg, belongs to the mayor and council there; the hammer mill has all gone to the bottom and instead a mill and a "Seeg" have been built. The city has no assets to rebuild. "

In Drahthammer there was also a station for the branch line Amberg - Schmidmühlen
