Großrußbach Castle is a baroque castle below the Großrußbach parish church in Lower Austria .

history

The staggered two-storey four-wing complex was created by supplementing the core from the 15th / 16th. The two-wing complex of the former vicarage dates back to the 17th century and was redesigned in Baroque style in 1739. This consisted of today's southwest and southeast wing and was expanded in 1980/81 by two more wings, which are connected to the old building by a baroque wall and portal system with a two-storey two-wing extension from the years 1948 to 1953.

The building complex is owned by the Archdiocese of Vienna and is used as the Schloss Großrußbach educational center for adult education.

Building description

Outside

Portal of the castle

According to the building inscription, the eleven- axis late baroque facade of the south-west wing with a central risalit and triangular gable with coat of arms dates from 1739. The meandering structures of the pre-baroque core from the second half of the 16th century were uncovered in 1980. A stuccoed arched portal with pilaster and cornice framing with vase and cartridge attachments opens up the banded ground floor. The upper floor is where over a circumferential string course and by cleaning fields and window frames with Sohlbänken and volutengestützten, curved Verdachungen , the buttress with stucco fillings, divided. A hipped roof forms the end over a surrounding eaves cornice .

The south-east wing has two late Gothic chamfered slotted windows and a renewed plaster structure.

The two wings in the north-east and north-west, which were added in 1980/81, have been brought into line with the old buildings with baroque plastering and window frames.

The portal system of the forecourt, structured by double pilasters and vase attachments, has a late baroque, three-axis structure with arched openings and was changed around 1740 and probably also around 1900. Two lantern angels come from the year of the first change.

Inside

In the south-west wing there is the former passage with lancet barrel vault , which is structured in the plaster. The two-bay chapel room is also vaulted with lancet barrels with lavish stucco decoration from around 1660/70 . The chapel has a round arched chancel with a square vault from the time of the renovation in 1739. The rooms on the ground floor of this wing are closed off by groin vaults .

The upper floor rooms of the south-east wing have stucco ceilings from around 1740.
