Großrußbach is a market town with 2221 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Korneuburg district in Lower Austria . It should not be confused with the municipality of Rußbach, which is also located around 30 km to the west in the Korneuburg district .

geography

Großrußbach is located in the valley of the Rußbach in the hills of the Weinviertel in Lower Austria, around 17 km north of Korneuburg . The area of ​​the market town covers 32.71 square kilometers. 14.2 percent of the area is forested.

The strong population growth in recent decades is based on both a positive birth balance and a strong influx. The migration balance in the years from 1991 to 2001 was +216 and in the following ten years 192 more people moved to Großrußbach than left.

  • Großrußbach Castle : The castle stands below the parish church and is used as an educational center for the Archdiocese of Vienna .
  • Catholic parish church Großrußbach hl. Valentin: The former fortified church has a three-bay nave from the 2nd half of the 15th century. The two-bay, polygonal choir between the late Gothic tower and the sacristy probably dates from the 2nd half of the 14th century.
