The Schwanberg Castle is in the market town of Bad Schwanberg in District Germany mountain in Styria . The castle is a listed building .

history

A castle was built around 1200. After a fiefdom from Brixen , the castle was owned by the Pettauer from the 13th to the 15th century . According to the year on the portal , a new building was built in 1581 with Wilhelm von Galler . In 1778 the chapel of the castle was consecrated. The castle has been owned by the Province of Styria since 1891.

Around 1920 it was planned to set up a " Rosegger teacher recovery home" in the castle .

Nursing home

In 1892 a state hospital for the mentally ill was established.

In 1941 the foster people were murdered in the Nazi killing center in Hartheim in particular . In February 1942 it was written: "With the removal of 145 patients, we now have the opportunity to have various urgently required whitening work carried out in the prison premises."

In July 2006, a memorial in the form of a granite stele was erected in memory of the victims of the Nazi murders .

In 2010 the facility had 164 beds.

In autumn 2010 the West Styrian state nursing home was checked due to a criminal complaint. The nursing director was suspended on allegations of ill-treatment and several employees were investigated. The head of a care unit was convicted.

On July 1, 2015, the Schwanberg state nursing home was closed. The residents were distributed to three new locations. There was a takeover guarantee for the 119 employees.

architecture

The castle is an almost trapezoidal square courtyard , with the north-west corner being pulled forward to the north and west, so that a kind of risalit appears in the western front on the left . Noteworthy is the trapezoid is Laubenhof with column arcades on all four sides. The castle has numerous stucco ceilings around 1710 and 1790.

There is a well with a stone parapet from the beginning of the 18th century.

Furnishing

There is a baroque altar in the chapel . The altarpiece of the Annunciation with the signature P. Bonifaz. Pinxit 1912 was restored in 1977.
