It was built 1606–1628 for Diprand von Czettritz auf Neuhaus in the Renaissance style in Oberwaldenburg on the then city limits of Waldenburg. The construction took place after a fire in Neuhaus Castle , the ruins of which are still in the Dittersbach ( Dzietrzychów ) district today. From 1738 the castle was owned by the Counts of Hochberg auf Fürstenstein (who later became the Prince of Pless ). In 1857 the old castle was rebuilt and since then has been the administrative seat for the von Hochberg family's estates. In the years 1882-1883 a reconstruction and an extension in the style of the neo-renaissance was made. The castle was originally built in the Oberwaldenburg district, but is now located in the city center of Waldenburg (Wałbrzych – Śródmieście, Zamkowa 4) not far from the ring.

The castle has two floors and a third attic floor . Many rooms of the castle are equipped with vaulted ceilings. The most beautiful Renaissance stucco ornaments are in the anteroom. The Renaissance portal at the main entrance on the east side of the castle is provided with a cartouche of the von Czettritz and von Zedlitz families .

The castle complex includes the Czettritz Park (laid out in 1886) with an area of about five hectares, a residence of the castle administrator from the end of the 18th century, economic outbuildings (stables and coach house) from the 19th century and two villas belonging to the von Hochberg family from 1905 and from 1923. Duchess Mary Theresa von Pless, Mistress of Fürstenstein and Princess of Pless , called Princess Daisy (an aunt of Winston Churchill ), the last owner of Waldenburg Castle, died in the older villa in 1943 . In 2007 a memorial for the Duchess was erected in the courtyard. Since 2004 the State University of Applied Sciences " Angelus Silesius " (PWSZ im. Angelusa Silesiusa w Wałbrzychu) has been housed in the castle .
