The Schlossgymnasium Kirchheim unter Teck is a general education high school in the Baden-Württemberg town of Kirchheim unter Teck in the Esslingen district . It was first mentioned in 1249 and has survived reforms and historical events since then . This makes the Schlossgymnasium the oldest school in Baden-Württemberg . The name comes from a hunting lodge, which was located on the site of the former castle high school.

history

Development of the Kirchheim high schools

1249 to 1937

The castle high school was founded in 1249 as a Latin school for boys, probably in the hospital district of Kirchheim. There the students were taught to read and write using the Latin language. The industrialization that began in the 19th century required real subjects in the curriculum. These included arithmetic, geography, history and French, among others. Therefore, from 1833 there was also a secondary school in parallel with the Latin school. One of their first teachers was the Senior Preceptor Eduard Eyth , father of the poet-engineer Max Eyth . Increasing numbers of pupils at the beginning of the 20th century required a new building for the Latin school, which was moved into in 1909 in Jahnstrasse. In 1921 the first year graduated from high school there. Until 1936, the upper secondary school and the secondary school existed under the same management.

1937 to 1945

In the time of National Socialism , standardization began, all higher schools were referred to as "high schools" and shortened to eight school years. Towards the end of the war, the schoolhouse was used as a military hospital and by the Reichsbahn ; it was eventually cannibalized and badly damaged. After that, lessons were transferred to barracks in the courtyard.

Since 1945

In 1945, lessons began with around 600 students and old structures were gradually restored. Due to the acute danger of collapse, the existing gym had to be replaced, the new gym was inaugurated in 1954 on the Lauterufer . Due to the growing resident population, a new building with a larger building was necessary, which could only be carried out in 1963 after renovation and new building work at other Kirchheim schools had been completed. The natural science rooms remained in the old building, the rooms for the language subjects were housed in the new building on the Kirchheimer Milcherberg. At the beginning of the school year 1966/67 the existing grammar school was divided and the two grammar schools named Schlossgymnasium and Ludwig-Uhland-Gymnasium were inaugurated. The name Schlossgymnasium is not derived from the nearby Kirchheimer Schloss, but rather a hunting lodge formerly located on the school grounds that gave it its name. After the Ludwig-Uhland-Gymnasium split off, the Schlossgymnasium had to start operations with 733 pupils and due to the fact that these years had a relatively high birth rate, an equally strong increase in high school students had to be expected. Since the school building was relatively dilapidated and the deficiencies such. For example, increasing traffic noise, no running water in the classrooms or heating problems made normal lessons extremely difficult and the repair work never stopped, a new building was inevitable despite all the improvements. In December 1976 the building contracts for the school and sports hall were given by the local council. At the beginning of the 1978/79 school year, the building in Jahnstrasse, which had been in use for 70 years, was vacated and 1,100 students moved into the new building in Jesinger Halde.

Modifications from 2008 to 2010

In the years 2008 to 2010 several renovation measures were carried out at the castle high school. On the ground floor, an art room was redesigned or modernized into a NwT room and the second floor received nine new classrooms, including a multimedia room with an interactive whiteboard that offers new presentation options. In 2010 a new staircase was built next to the main entrance , which also complies with current fire protection regulations. In addition, the sports hall was renovated from an ecological point of view.

Educational work

Double hour model

A trial phase for the double-hour model has been taking place since the 2010/11 school year. Two school hours are combined into a 90-minute block, the long breaks have been extended by five minutes. The aim of this measure is to create a more efficient teaching environment, whereby concentrated work phases and less demanding group work should alternate. The decision-making in the school year 2009/10 was pervaded by strong dissenting votes on the part of students and teachers, although a clear majority emerged in favor of the attempt.

Nwt / Latin / Spanish train - cooperation with the LUG

In addition to the foreign languages English (from grade 5) and French (from grade 6), a choice for a fifth core subject from grade 8 is offered. A student can choose between the natural sciences and technology , the Spanish or the Latin course. The chosen subject is then taught in grades 8 to 10. In the upper level, there is a cooperation between the Schloss- and Ludwig-Uhland-Gymnasium, whereby less attended courses are combined into one course that takes place at one of the two schools.

Bilingual train

Talented and motivated students have been able to take the bilingual train since 2012. The subjects geography, history and biology are taught in two languages. Furthermore, the students of the bilingual train receive additional English lessons from the 5th grade. After the 10th grade you will receive a certificate for its occupancy. Demand and promote

The support and promotion concept at the Schlossgymnasium offers students the opportunity to work on their deficits in small groups in the core subjects of mathematics, German, French and English. On the other hand, gifted students from the 8th grade can deepen scientific thinking and work in project-oriented lessons (biology and physics).

The prerequisites for participation in this class are the achievements in the respective subjects and the voluntariness (i.e. the student decides voluntarily whether he wants to attend the class).
