The narrow-gauge railway Bärn-Andersdorf - Hof was a narrow-gauge railway in Moravia ( Czech Republic ), which was originally built and operated as a local railway by the Austrian state. It ran in the Lower Jeseníky from Bärn (Moravský Beroun) to Hof in Moravia (Dvorce u Bruntálu). The line was closed in 1933.

history

After the opening of the Moravian-Silesian Central Railway from Olomouc to Jägerndorf and Troppau in 1872, the route of which ran through the Feistritz Valley, the small Moravian town of Hof in Moravia , located about ten kilometers to the east, suffered economic disadvantages.

After long negotiations, the Austrian state finally agreed to build a narrow-gauge local railway to Hof. With financial support from the municipality of Hof, construction of the line began in 1898.

The line was opened on December 31, 1898. The kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) carried out the operation itself. Three mixed pairs of 3rd class trains drove daily, which took between 45 and 50 minutes for the eleven kilometer route.

After the break-up of Austria-Hungary as a result of World War I , the line was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). The ČSD continued operations unchanged.

Due to the economic hardship in Hof after the global economic crisis , the load on the route fell and the railway became unprofitable. A parallel bus line established in 1930 withdrew additional passengers from the railway. So the ČSD decided to shut down and replace it with its own rail bus line. The last day of operation was September 14, 1933. The locomotives and cars were moved to the Třemešná ve Slezsku – Osoblaha narrow-gauge railway . The tracks were dismantled in 1937.

Further plans to convert the route to standard gauge and to connect it with the nearby railway line Suchdol nad Odrou – Budišov nad Budišovkou were no longer realized.

The remnants of the route are still visible today. Above all, a bridge between Ondrášov and Moravský Beroun and the buildings of the stations in Moravský Beroun, Čabová and Dvorce are reminiscent of the former narrow-gauge railway.

Route description

The route ran from Bärn-Andersdorf (Ondrášov) station in the Feistritz valley via Bärn Stadt , Brockersdorf (Čabová) and Reigersdorf (Rejchartice) in a north-easterly direction into the Lobniggrund to Hof .

Locomotives and wagons

The kkStB procured two locomotives of the well-proven U series with the numbers U 12 and U 16 for the route , which were stationed in Hof. During the First World War the reserve locomotive was handed over to the Austro-Hungarian Army Railroad. As a replacement, the kkStB stationed a Baulokomotive of series A in Bear, who was followed by a second later. At the kkStB they had the numbers A.001 and A.005. After the route was taken over by ČSD, the U 12 was renamed U 37.002 in 1925, the A.001 and A.005 were given the numbers U 25.001 and U 25.005.

The two locomotives U 25.001 and U 25.005 were retired in July 1932. The U 37.002, however, was preserved and is now an operational museum locomotive at the Jindřichohradecké místní dráhy (JHMD) in Jindřichův Hradec .
