In March 1923 Walter Schneeberger-Grütter opened a mechanical workshop on Dorfstrasse in Roggwil / BE, Switzerland . In 1924 the first sharpening device for milling cutters was manufactured, in 1927 the first milling cutter sharpening machine with dividing device. In 1928 the machines were exhibited for the first time at the sample fair in Basel. In 1929, Schneeberger manufactured the first milling cutter sharpening machine with wet grinding, which was exhibited at the Leipzig trade fair in 1934 with the other sharpening machines . In 1938 Walter Schneeberger jun. as a mechanic apprentice. In 1939, Schneeberger Lineartechnik bought the property at St. Urbanstrasse 2 in Roggwil and manufactured special woodworking machines. In 1940, Schneeberger exported to Italy for the first time . In 1945 the tool sharpening machine SN was developed with its own built-in longitudinal guides. In 1947 the company received major export orders for sharpening machines from England , and in 1948 Walter Schneeberger jun. as operations manager, the production of longitudinal guides according to customer drawings began. Two years later, Hans Schneeberger joined as a businessman . From 1950 to 1956, Schneeberger manufactured machines for the graphic industry.

In 1953 the previous sole proprietorship was converted into a stock corporation . In that year, the construction of machines for processing optical glasses began, which lasted until 1962. In 1954 the pension fund was founded and the production of shoe last and heel copier machines started, which were manufactured until 1963. From 1955, special machines for the carpet industry were also built (until 1964). In 1958, Schneeberger first took part in the Hanover Fair . In 1959 the company received a larger order for shoe last copy lathes from Boston . The first participation in the European Machine Tool Exhibition in Paris with longitudinal guides also took place this year. In 1962, Schneeberger took over the general agency for Striebig circular panel saws and in 1963 bought the company Scheune and Land on St. Urbanstrasse. In 1964, Schneeberger founded the company Schneeberger SA in Paris as the first subsidiary abroad (1975 move to Brétigny sur Orge / France), one year later the company Schneeberger was founded in Neuenbürg , Germany (from 1971 in Höfen an der Enz , Black Forest).

Founder Walter Schneeberger-Grütter died in 1968 at the age of 78. In 1970, Schneeberger took part in a trade fair for woodworking machines in Louisville (USA) with its own stand as the first participation outside of Europe. A year later, another subsidiary in Italy became the company Schneeberger Italiana in Angera / VA, Höfen: Construction of the first workshop, start of production of longitudinal guides / special components. In 1977 Walter and Hans Schneeberger jointly took over the management. In the next year, the existing production program within W. Schneeberger AG was divided into longitudinal guides and mechanical engineering .

In 1980, Schneeberger Holding AG was founded with its registered office in Roggwil and took over all investments in the existing companies in Roggwil, Brétigny, Höfen and Angera. In 1983 Hans Schneeberger-Lerch took over the management of the group of companies. In 1985, Schneeberger founded Schneeberger Inc. in Bedford, USA (near Boston). On January 1, 1986, Schneeberger began operating as a North American agency in the linear technology sector. In 1987, the third generation of the family, Hans Martin Schneeberger, joined W. Schneeberger AG, Roggwil. In 1989 the sharpening machine product line in Roggwil was spun off and sold, and after Walter Schneeberger-Egger resigned, Hans Schneeberger-Lerch became Chairman of the Board of Directors. In 1990, Schneeberger founded Nippon Schneeberger KK in Tokyo , Japan. The following year, Schneeberger began manufacturing and delivering the “Monorail with rollers” product line, and Monorail rail production began in Höfen. In 1993, Schneeberger Technique Linéaire S.à.rl was founded in F-Brétigny. The linear technology division was taken over from the existing Schneeberger SA, and the first mechatronic linear guide was delivered in Roggwil : Monorail with an integrated position measuring system. Hans Martin Schneeberger, Delegate of the Board of Directors , also took over the management of all linear technology companies this year. In 1995, Schneeberger gave up the "woodworking" product area at all companies in the Schneeberger Group, the strategic focus fell on linear technology with the three product lines components, systems and monorail. In 1997, Schneeberger delivered the first positioning systems with position stability in the nanometer range . One year later, Schneeberger launched the “Monorail with balls” product family and the second generation of mechatronic guides on the market. In 1999 the activities in the semiconductor and electronics industry were further expanded, and in 2000 the miniature guide Minirail was launched on the market.

In 2001 the company started manufacturing automation and launched Forumla-S. In 2002, Hans Schneeberger died at the age of 75, and Rhenoscast AG was integrated into W. Schneeberger AG as the mineral casting division. After a few years, Rhenoscast AG will become Schneeberger Mineralguss. In 2004 the mini-module was launched, one year later the Schneeberger Shanghai Co. was founded in Shanghai , China, and in 2006 a new production facility for Schneeberger mineral casting technology was founded in Cheb , Czech Republic .
