Vegetative characteristics

They are woody plants. They are root parasites, more precisely green semi-parasites (hemiparasites). The alternate leaves are simple and pinnate. Stipules are missing.

Generative characteristics

The flowers, which are located directly above the bracts , are grouped in differently structured inflorescences . The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical flowers are four to six-fold. The four to six petals are fused. The discus is meaty. There is only one stamen circle . The carpels are one under permanent to semi-permanent under ovary grown.

There are drupes formed.

The genus Schoepfia used to belong to the Olacaceae Juss family . , Arjona and Quinchamalium to the Santalaceae R.Br. Closest related to the Schoepfiaceae Blume family are the Misodendraceae J.Agardh and Loranthaceae Juss families . A synonym for Schoepfiaceae flower is Arjonaceae van Tieghem .
