It flows in a south-easterly direction, forms the municipal boundary to Gaspoltshofen for around 2 km , flows past Niederthalheim and takes on the Aubach from the right at Hinterschützing . Here the brook turns in a wide arc to the northeast and now flows parallel to the Ager on its high terrace . It passes Breitenschützing ( Schlatt municipality ) and takes the Willinger Bach from the left at Oberschwaig ( Neukirchen bei Lambach municipality ). It finally flows through the local area of Lambach and flows into the Traun from the left below the Lambach power station.

Surname

The hydronym of the upper reaches of the Middle High German  Krebez (e), krebz (e) , cancer 'or a subsidiary form kriuz, kreuz (e) . The name of the whole Bach derives - river-usually from the lower reaches her - from the field names of the two places Oberschwaig and low Schwaig ( Schwaige , farm '), near the mouth decreases.

Water flow

The mean discharge at the Oberschwaig gauge is 0.45 m³ / s, which corresponds to a relatively low discharge rate of 9.8 l / s · km². The Schwaigerbach has a very balanced discharge regime , the monthly mean of the months with the highest discharge, February and March, at 0.60 m³ / s, not even twice as high as those of the months with the lowest discharge, September and October, with 0.34 m³ / s.

nature

The Schwaigerbach is designated as a landscape protection area with a strip of 50 meters on both banks . However, the stream has been straightened over long stretches and both the banks and the river bed are paved, especially in the settlement area. Outside of the settlement areas, there are more natural sections with meanders and wood along the banks (especially willows , alders , common bird cherries and isolated pollarded willows ). On the upper reaches of the municipal border between Niederthalheim and Gaspoltshofen, the stream has a narrow ribbon of alluvial forest . In the local area of Lambach, the 3 m wide stream is solidly built with bank walls and a brick floor. The area where it flows into the Traun was redesigned in the course of the construction of the Lambach power plant.
