The Černý potok rises at the northern foot of the Čerchov ( Schwarzkopf , 1042 m nm) in the Upper Palatinate Forest . Its source is located east of the Malinová hora ( berry rock , 963 m nm) in the protected landscape area (CHKO) Český les. The Radbuza tributaries Čerchovka and Černý potok as well as the Teplá Bystřice / Warm Pastritz have their source in the immediate vicinity .
On its upper reaches through the Čerchovský les forest area, the stream first flows west of the Černovrší ( Black Mountain ; 793 m nm) to the north and then takes a north-westerly direction. The course of the Černý potok leads north of the Květná Skalina ( blue flower rock , 790 m nm) through Černá Řeka ( Sophienal ). South of Jindřichova Hora ( Heinrichsberg ) the brook between the Plesno (686 m nm) and the Liščín ( Fuchsberg , 698 m nm) forms a notch valley, in which the settlement Černořecká Huť ( Sophienhütte ) used to be. The lower course of the Černý potok leads in a south-westerly direction past Lísková ( Haselbach ) over the Czech-German border. After just under nine kilometers, the Schwarzbach flows into the Bohemian Schwarzach near the Waldmünchen district of Höll .
The Czech part of the creek runs over its entire length of eight kilometers through the nature park and the protected landscape area of Český les; the catchment area of the Černý potok in the Czech Republic covers 15,242 km². The brook only flows through Germany for a length of 800 meters.
