The Black Koppe ( Czech Svorová hora , Polish Czarna Kopa ) is a mountain on the eastern part of the main ridge of the Giant Mountains.

location

The mountain is located on the Czech-Polish border, right next to the Schneekoppe near Karpacz ( Krummhübel ) and, like many peaks in the Giant Mountains, the path of Polish-Czech friendship (Kammweg) also leads along here.

In the east, a saddle, over which the Owl Pass ( Polish Przełęcz Sowia , Czech Soví sedlo / Můstek ) leads, separates the Schwarze Koppe from the neighboring table stone (Polish Skalny Stół ). From here you have a beautiful view of the Eulengrund (Czech: Soví dolina), an old mining area and down into the valley of the Little Aupa ( Malá Úpa ).

The north-west slope falls together with the north slope of the adjacent Schneekoppe into the Melzergrund (Polish: Kocioł Łomniczki ). Here (Pol. In the valley of the Little Lomnitz Łomniczka ) is the Bergbaude "Nad Łomniczką" ( Melzergrundbaude ) at an altitude of 1002 m above sea level.

features

The structure of the mountain consists mainly of black mica slate, a metamorphic rock that gives it its name, in German and Polish in terms of color ( czarna = black) and in relation to the rock in Czech, where the word Svor stands for mica slate. This rock is the bedrock typical of the Bohemian folk jewelry garnets and beside granite and gneiss the third most common in the Giant Mountains.

Flora, fauna and nature conservation

The Schwarze Koppe is located in the area of national parks: in Poland in the Karkonoski Park Narodowy (KPN) and in the Czech Republic in the Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP), which have been part of the UNESCO biosphere reserves since 1992 .

On the slopes there are numerous rocky seas with a wide belt of mountain pines growing in between. This barren habitat offers only limited possibilities for all living things. The biodiversity is accordingly differentiated and large with low populations and a high proportion of endangered species. But this vegetation zone also offers opportunities and especially birds such as B. snow sparrow , wheatear or redstart find a rich food supply in the form of various insect species.
