The Růžová hora (German Rosenberg ) is a mountain in the eastern part of the Giant Mountains in the Czech Republic.

location

The Rosenberg is located in the central part of the Giant Mountains, just under 3 km north of Pec pod Sněžkou (German Petzer ) and about 2 km south of the Schneekoppe . It is the first and highest peak of the series of foothills (transverse ridges) running from the main ridge to the south, which are subsequently formed by the mountain massifs Schwarzenberg (Czech Černá hora ), Mooshübel (Czech Mechovinec ), Wolfskamm (Czech Vlčí hřeben ) and finally the Rehorn Mountains (Czech. Rýchory ) is formed.

It is connected to the Schneekoppe by a flat saddle at an altitude of about 1360 meters. The ridge, the slopes of which drop steeply into the surrounding valleys, continues in a south-easterly direction to the Finkenkoppe (Czech: Pěnkavčí vrch).

Waters

Apart from the areas where it borders directly on its neighbors, the Rosenberg is surrounded by deep valleys. The west side is drained via the two tributaries of the Úpa ( Aupa ), Růžový potok ( Rosenbach ) and Karlův potok ( Karlsbach ) in the Riesengrund.

The eastern slope drops into the Löwengrund, where the water of the three mountain streams Koulová strouha , Křížový potok and Messnerova strouha is discharged into the Jelení potok (translated Hirschbach , German Löwenbach ), a tributary of the Small Aupa ( Malá Úpa ).

Flora, fauna and nature conservation

The Rosenberg lies in the area of the Czech National Park Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP), which was founded in 1963 to protect endangered plant and animal species.

The upper part of the Rosenberg and the saddle to the north is covered with mountain pines , the slopes to the surrounding valleys are dominated by dark spruce forests . On the southern and eastern sides of the mountain, the trees are less dense and more marked by clearings.

After bears and wolves as well as the golden eagle were exterminated a long time ago, the forest birds literally set the tone here. So z. B. the barn owl , a small mountain owl, which is rarely seen, but can be heard often and especially after dusk. Also hard to see is the capercaillie , which finds perfect cover in the coppice at the edge of clearings. Several smaller birds are to be mentioned: bullfinches , chaffinches and crossbills , which feed on spruce seeds, some species of woodpecker and the ring owl , a relative of the blackbird.

tourism

The cable car from Pec pod Sněžkou to Sněžka has an intermediate station on Rosenberg at an altitude of 1354 meters . From here you can comfortably reach the summit of the Schneekoppe, about 2 km to the north, on a hiking trail marked in yellow. Other hiking trails lead z. B. over the Messnergrund ( Messnerova strouha ) and the Löwengrund ( Lví důl ) to Malá Úpa ( Kleinaupa ) or parallel to the route of the chairlift to Pec pod Sněžkou.

History

According to unconfirmed sources from contemporaries, the construction of a freight railway to supply and build parts of the Czechoslovak border fortifications on the Czechoslovak Wall was planned. According to the reports, the railway was supposed to be built in 1938 and lead from today's valley station up the mountain, but due to the events after the Munich Agreement , these plans were never put into practice.
