history
The starting point for the formation of Pec is located in Obří důl . The first mentions of the place come from 1511, where ores - mainly arsenopyrite and copper pyrites - were mined until 1959 . The settlement of Pec was not established until the end of the 16th century and was then still part of Velká Úpa . Foresters from Styria, Carinthia and Tyrol settled in Pec to secure the wood supply for the silver mines in Kuttenberg . They built the first buildings in Pec.
In the second half of the 19th century tourism began in the Giant Mountains and thus also in Pec. Pec has developed into a popular summer resort and, because of its location below the highest peaks of this mountain range, a very popular winter sports resort.
Community structure
The district of Velká Úpa ( Großaupa ) belongs to the town of Pec .
Attractions
Pec and Velká Úpa are tourist places with a little agriculture. 8500 guest beds are offered. A new gondola lift (2014) opens up the summit of Śnieżka all year round via the intermediate station Růžová hora. Before that, a chairlift led to the Schneekoppe. Other lifts serve winter sports enthusiasts.
A network of hiking trails and the buildings on them offer hikers good conditions. In both places and in the surrounding area there are still numerous mountain buildings that often offer accommodation and food. Since 2004, the historic Kovárna mine in the Riesengrund can be visited in summer .
