Úpice (German: Eipel ) is a town of Okres Trutnov in the Czech Republic . It is located on the Úpa ( Aupa ) and belongs to the foothills of the Giant Mountains .
history
Úpice was founded around the 11th century on the trade route from Trutnov to Broumov at a ford of the Úpa River . The original settlement consisted of a few buildings on the hill and buildings scattered along the river. A church was built on the headland. All buildings were made of wood. The Wiesenburg was built in 1270 . In the same year Úpice was elevated to a market town and a short time later the seat of the pastoral administration. The town had brewing rights, its own currency, customs rights and its own weighing and length measurement. During the Hussite Wars and during the Thirty Years War , the village was repeatedly plundered and the castle destroyed. The town was not spared during the Silesian Wars either.
