history

Kalná was first mentioned in 1352 in connection with the parish church. The first owner of the estate can be traced back to Peter Ocas von Zásada between 1362 and 1364. In 1372 Charles IV donated the village to the Provosty Wrchlab near Klášterská Lhota . Until the 15th century Kalná belonged to the property of the provost, which went out at the beginning of the Hussite Wars . The monastery was probably destroyed in 1421 by the owners of the neighboring Arnau lordship , the brothers Johann and Hynek Kruschina von Lichtenburg ; older sources indicate that it was destroyed by Jan Žižka in 1424. In 1436 Hynek Kruschina von Lichtenburg received the goods of the Provosty Wrchlab, which he had already appropriated since 1420, including Kalná, from Emperor Sigismund as a pledge. This fell after Hynek's death to Georg von Podiebrad , who sold it to the brothers Hynek and Jindřich von Waldstein in 1466 . In 1522 Kalná was inherited by the Lords of Waldstein, they held the property until 1628. In 1654, Johann von Morzin acquired the property. Since the beginning of the 18th century, Kalná was divided into two settlements, of which the upper one was called Horo-Kalná and Horno-Kalná . The Counts Morzin sold Kalná in 1796 to the linen manufacturer Ignaz Falge from Trautenau . His son of the same name sold the Tschista estate including all accessories, including Kalná, to Charles Alain de Rohan-Guéméné on January 1, 1834 , together with the Lomnitz rule . At that time the village of Kallna / Kalna consisted of 252 houses and 1498 inhabitants. Until the middle of the 19th century Kalná remained subject to the allodial property Čistá.

After the abolition of patrimonial Horní Kalná and Dolní Kalná separated from 1849 into two independent communities. The settlement of Příčnice also belonged to the municipality of Horní Kalná, which became part of the Jičín District Commission and the Nová Paka judicial district from 1850 . The common house numbering for both communities existed until 1880. From 1900 the community belonged to the Nová Paka district. Horní Kalná covered an area of 891 ha in 1900 and consisted of 169 houses in which 973 people lived. The place has always been characterized by agriculture. In addition, mining was carried out in the Rotliegend and Zechstein layers of Kallna and Huttendorf . The population consisted mostly of Czechs. After the Munich Agreement, Horní Kalná remained with Czechoslovakia in 1938, with the Elbe valley in the north forming the border with the German Empire until 1945. After the Okres Nová Paka was abolished, the municipality was assigned to the Okres Trutnov in 1961. In 1976 Horní Kalna was affiliated with Slemeno to the Local National Committee Dolní Kalná and at the beginning of 1981 was completely incorporated. Since September 1st, 1990 Horní Kalna has again formed its own municipality. The village after Dolní Kalná is parish.
