history

The first written mention of the place Stanowicz comes from the year 1404. In 1407 Johann Trnecz de Stanowicz was named as the owner. After the Thirty Years' War the German name Stangendorf was created.

Between 1717 and 1732 the sculptor Matthias Bernhard Braun created the Bethlehem in Neuwald for Count Franz Anton von Sporck . 26 figurative representations were created by excavating the sandstone rocks or boulders. After Spork's death in 1738, the nature gallery was damaged in the Second Silesian War . In the course of the construction work on the Josefstadt Fortress , from 1781 sandstone was broken for the fortress in the Neuwald quarry and a large part of the sculptures were damaged when the stones were removed.

The Betlém with its ten sculptures still preserved today has been a national cultural monument since 2002 .
