The Schweinberg is 535  m above sea level. A. high hill in the Austrian state of Styria . The survey is located in the east of the provincial capital Graz on the border with the municipality of Kainbach bei Graz .

Location and surroundings

The Schweinberg is located in the district of Ries and rises around 400 m south of the Riedel with the place name Auf der Ries , over which the Gleisdorfer Straße (B 65) runs. To the south the terrain slopes down to the densely populated Ragnitztal . To the west and east of the Schweinberg, side ditches lead to the Ragnitztal, the western one separates the elevation from the Fuchsriegel . Department 10 (agriculture and forestry) of the Styrian state government is located on the western slope of the southern foothills in Haidegg. The Schweinberg is part of the landscape protection area of ​​the northern and eastern hill country of Graz (LSG-30) and can be crossed on a hiking trail.

Geology and geomorphology

The Schweinberg is made up of Miocene sands and clays , which typically fill a large part of the Styrian Basin . The largely forested west side of the hill is part of the torrent catchment area Schweinbergbach and shows traces of some older landslides .
