The Schweinberg is a nature reserve on the mountain of the same name in the Lower Saxony city of Hameln .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG HA 015 is 169.1 hectares in size. It is located in the northeast of the city of Hameln within the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln nature park and extends up to the summit of the Schweinberg. It is characterized by an ancient semi-natural Woodruff Buchenwald , the arable afforestation has emerged in the early 20th century.
The forest area has a well-developed herb layer with occurrences of spring flowers such as wood anemones and lark spurs . Märzenbecher are particularly numerous on Schweinberg. The carpet of flowers extends over 1.5 kilometers over a width of 100 to 200 meters. It is probably the largest occurrence of the Märzenbechers in northern Germany and is one of the largest natural collections of Märzenbechen in Germany.
Several hiking trails run through the nature reserve. There is an information pavilion near the Hameln district of Holtensen , which provides information on the geology , flora and fauna , history and forest development of the area. In the southern area of the protected area there is an approximately one kilometer long educational forest trail that leads past trees that are up to 200 years old. As a special feature, there is also a 150 year old sweet chestnut tree. In the southern area is the former forester's house Heisenküche , which has served exclusively as a forest restaurant since 1905 . Remnants of the Hamelin Landwehr can be found there .
The area has been under nature protection since January 6, 1948. The city of Hameln is responsible as the lower nature conservation authority. To the west of the nature reserve is the Gröninger Feld, a large open area with fields and meadows. It is a clearing island , which is the relic of the (agriculturally used area) desert Gröningen .
