Scott Steed

Scott Raymond Steed (born October 30, 1957 in Grand Rapids (Michigan) , † March 26, 2020 in Seattle ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass ).

Steed was active in several musical groups during his time at East Kentwood High School ; During this time he also attended the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp , where he was selected to perform with other musicians in Europe. After Steed graduated from high school, he began working as a professional musician.

In 1983 the first recordings were made with saxophonist Don Weed ( Without a Song ). In 1985 he became bassist in the Horace Silver Quintet (without participating in recordings); During these years he also recorded with Mark Murphy , Kitty Margolis , Tee Carson , Rebecca Parris & The Kenny Hadley Big Band and Eddie Duran .

From 1993 to 1998 Steed performed with singer Joe Williams . From 2001 to 2011 he was the bass player and musical director of Diane Schuur's backing band ; can be heard on Schuur's album Some Other Time (Concord, 2007, with Randy Porter , Dan Balmer and Reggie Jackson ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 21 recording sessions between 1983 and 2017, according to Tom Lord . a. also with Rebecca Kilgore , Barbara Lusch, Dick Titterington , most recently with the Michael Waldrop Big Band.

He has also taught in the Traveling Clinician Program of the Monterey Jazz Festival and has lectured at both Eastern Washington University and Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. He died in March 2020 at the University of Washington Medical Hospital in Seattle.
