Sebastián Martínez (born December 4, 1977 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian - Uruguayan football player on the position of midfielder .

childhood

Martínez spent his early childhood in Austria, when his Uruguayan father Alberto Martínez played football for FK Austria Wien and for the Wiener Sport-Club at the time. After his father finished his footballing career, he went to Uruguay with his family. There Sebastián began playing football at Nacional FC de Rocha and Punta del Este CCD .

Career

society

The striker began his professional career as a midfielder with the Uruguayan second division team Juventud before moving to Club Nacional de Football , one of the country's two top clubs. Martínez was rarely used, however. In 2000 he finally returned to Austria to gain a foothold with the second division club SV Wörgl . For the Tyroleans , he played a total of 79 league games and scored 35 goals. Martínez was soon considered one of the best technicians in the league.

In the summer of 2003 he finally accepted an offer from the first division team SK Rapid Wien . In Hütteldorf he was able to adapt quickly to the level of the new league and after two years, in 2005, became Austrian champion with the green-whites. He himself contributed eight goals this season. After a personally unfortunate game year 2005/2006, Rapid Wien parted ways with the midfielder at the end of the season, who was then signed by SV Ried under his former coach at SV Wörgl, Helmut Kraft , for two years with an option for another year . Martínez successfully integrated into the team and scored the winning goal in the last game of the 2006/07 season, which secured the runner-up. After his contract with Ried was not renewed, Martínez moved to FC Magna Wiener Neustadt . After a year and a half, he turned his back on the Neustadt team and switched to the second division club First Vienna FC 1894 during the 2010 winter break .

Although he was a regular at Vienna, played 36 competitive games and scored seven goals, the club announced in December 2010 that it would no longer plan with Martínez. During the winter break, his contract, which ran until the summer of 2011, with the Viennese who had been trained by Alfred Tatar at the time, was terminated . In early March 2011 it was announced that Martínez intends to end his career after the termination of the contract.

National team

Sebastián Martínez made two international matches for the Austrian national team . Both games, against Cyprus and Latvia , took place in February 2005 as part of a four-country tournament in Cyprus. He also played two games for the Austrian Future team that year .
