Sebastian Fleiter (born March 24, 1971 in Hamburg ) is a German media artist , conceptual artist , designer and entrepreneur.

life and work

Sebastian Fleiter graduated from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Velbert in 1991 after attending school at the municipal high school in Wülfrath and at the Ames High School in Iowa . 1992–1997 followed civil service and work at the Freie Werkstatt Theater in Cologne , and in 1995 a stage fireworks course at the blasting school in Dresden . 1995–1999 he worked at the Age Exchange Theater in London . In 1995 he graduated from the Stage Design Summer School at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Sebastian Fleiter then completed two courses at the Kassel Art College . On the one hand “Free Fine Art” with Rob Scholte, from 1998 to 2002 with Karin Stempel and Alf Schuler. Secondly, “Visual Communication” with a focus on “New Media”, from 1998 to graduation with distinction in 2006 with Björn Melhus and Joel Baumann. In 2004 he spent a few months in California on a DAAD scholarship . In 2004 Fleiter founded the “Nachrichtenmeisterei”, a creative start-up center and network in vacant Deutsche Bahn buildings in Kassel . In 2007 Sebastian Fleiter founded his label “Atelier Fleiter”. In 2011 he realized the project THE ELECTRIC HOTEL, a mobile platform that generates electricity, knowledge and ideas for major events. For this project, Fleiter was recognized by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media as the “Creative Pilot of the Federal Republic of Germany”.

Fleiter often combines artistic methodology and entrepreneurship in his work, and works in the field of tension between art, science and politics. His works were shown at the Vancouver Biennale 2005 to 2006 or in 2002 at a group exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main. Since 2011 he has been represented with his artistic work in more unusual art places, at international music festivals such as the Wacken Open Air , the Shambala Festival in Great Britain, the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium, or the DGTL Festival in Amsterdam. Sebastian Fleiter was on the board of directors of the KasselerKunstVereins for a number of years and was co- curator of the MONITORING media art exhibition at the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival. He had teaching assignments and gave workshops at universities and elementary schools in Germany and abroad. He is also active in a number of committees on the subject of creative industries, and is on the road with lecture series. Sebastian Fleiter was awarded the Gold Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany by the Federal Ministry of Economics , and as a Green Ambassador by the British Green Organization. He received the international Green Apple Award in Westminster Abbey , the Green World Award in Seoul and was the national winner of the EIT Climate KIC Start Up Program of the European Union.

Sebastian Fleiter has been married to the illustrator and author Florentine Joop since 2016. They live with four children, three of whom come from previous partnerships, and a daughter in Potsdam .
