Sebastian Lucius (manufacturer)
Sebastian Lucius (born November 2, 1781 in Erfurt , † September 18, 1857 in Klein Ballhausen ) was a German manufacturer in Erfurt.
Life
Sebastian was the eleventh child of the merchant Johann Anton Lucius in Erfurt. He attended the Evangelical High School in Erfurt and was trained as a businessman by his eldest brother in Höchst am Main from 1797 . After two years, Lucius returned to Erfurt to support his father in the business, whose company he founded operated the weaving of woolen ribbons. He later took over this company. The Joh. Lucius acquired two houses on the Anger (Erfurt) , which he combined to form the Lucius House (today: House Dacheröden ).
Lucius was politically and socially involved. He headed the Erfurt Chamber of Commerce for 12 years and was awarded the title of Commerce Councilor. He was a delegate at the meeting of German manufacturers and merchants. In the case of food taxes, Lucius sold grain below market price to the needy. Lucius and his wife (née Hebel) gave land and capital for a retirement home "Lucius-Hebel-Stiftung" and a Catholic hospital in Erfurt on Kartäuserstraße. Lucius was also involved in founding the Volksschen Erziehungsanstalt.
In 1851 he bought the Klein Ballhausen manor near Tennstedt , to which he retired in old age. The second oldest son Ferdinand Lucius continued the company from 1857 to 1862.
