August Lucius

August Lucius (born January 28, 1816 in Erfurt , † October 2, 1900 in Düsseldorf ) was a German merchant, landowner and member of parliament.

Life

He was Sebastian Lucius' first child and attended grammar school in Erfurt and secondary school in Elberfeld . He was an apprentice in Frankfurt am Main and then spent five years in England and America . He started out as a merchant, initially supporting his brother Ferdinand Lucius in his parents' company, Joh. Anton Lucius . From 1842 he became a farmer at the Stödten manor near Straussfurt in Thuringia , and later at the Lispenhausen manor near Bebra . He later moved to Düsseldorf. Lucius traveled a lot, even on distant continents. He liked to paint. The son Sebastian was also a painter.

As a member of the German Center Party , Lucius sat in the Reichstag (German Empire) for the constituency of Düsseldorf 4 (city of Düsseldorf) from 1882 to 1890 . He was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives from 1886 to June 20, 1891. He was friends with the center politician Ludwig Windthorst .
