Sebastiano Santi (born August 6, 1789 in Murano , † April 18, 1865 in Venice ) was a Venetian fresco painter.

life and work

Sebastiano Santi was born on the island of Murano in 1789, eight years before the end of the Republic of Venice . In 1832 he restored the Church of San Luca in the San Marco sestiere . In 1837, together with Luigi Zandomeneghi , he decorated the hall of the Fenice Theater , which was rebuilt after the fire on December 13, 1836.

Santi's focus was on fresco painting. He left numerous works in Veneto and Friuli , including the Church of San Daniele in Padua , San Michele Arcangelo in Cervignano del Friuli , Santo Stefano in Ruda , the Dom Ognissanti in Arzignano , Santa Maria Nascente in Artegna , Sant'Ulderico in Pavia di Udine , SS. Biagio e Daniele of Grantorto .

There were also works in Venice in the Museo Correr ( La gloria di Nettuno ) and in the Palazzo Barbarigo della Terrazza , where he created a mythological Bacchus scene ( Mercury brings Bacchus to the nymphs ), and probably also The light drives away darkness or aurora .

His last work was a Via Crucis for the Church of San Daniele in Padua.
