Sebel (* 1980 in Bochum , Germany , actually Sebastian Niehoff ) is a German singer-songwriter , rock musician , producer and photographer . His best-known work is the song Heimat (2011) with the accompanying video with Willi Thomczyk , which partly contains documentary images of the Cranger fair in Wanne-Eickel . In addition, Sebel is known for his work as a musician at the side of Stefan Stoppok . In 2017 he accompanied the German rapper Alligatoah on the tour "Alligatoah & Sebel do piecework" alone on the Hammond organ .

Career

He took his first musical steps in 1994 as a drummer in the Recklinghausen band Kiosk, which was previously called Sheer Heart Attack . The band rehearsed in the basement of their parents' house in Wanne-Eickel and produced the first demo recordings of German-language songs there. During this time he also taught himself to play the guitar in order to continue writing his own songs and producing them himself. In 2001 he had an album pressed on his own, which he called Kein Superstar . It was here that the name Sebel van der Nijhoff appeared for the first time , a nickname given to him by his two band colleagues Marcel Sander and Fabian Chmielewski in 1994. He gave the CD away exclusively to friends. In the meantime he celebrated some local successes with his band, among other things they were allowed to perform as support for Sasha . The band came into contact with the German singer Stefan Stoppok in 2003. This helped the band to release the double album 2 mixed bags on his own label La-La-Land in 2005 . Stoppok also produced the album with the band. The first CD contained a live album , recorded at the Zeche Bochum , CD2 is a rather calmer release with many ballads. It also remained Kiosk's last release, disbanding in 2007.

Sebel played as a drummer in various bands and formations continue to be released, the Beatles - Tribute Band The Barons and the rockabilly band The Ballroom Rockets. In order to stay afloat professionally, Sebel worked as an advertising photographer. The contact with Stoppok became more intense at this time and so the German singer took him on tour as a light man and roadie from 2007 . In 2009, Stoppok brought Sebel into his band. First on the Hammond organ and guitar, later on the drums . Sebel is represented as a musician on the albums Auf Zeche (2009) and Popschutz (2014).

In 2009, Sebel met producer Claus Grabke while the band The Heartbreak Motel was producing an album . Sebel played on some songs by the band Hammond organ. Between 2009 and 2010 the two produced Sebel's album Wie deutsch one can be . As a multi-instrumentalist , Sebel recorded all the instruments on the album himself. Some songs are reworked songs from his earlier demo album Kein Superstar . The album was released on August 24, 2012 by BMG Rights Management . The single Heimat was released from the album .

Between 2012 and 2014 Sebel toured Germany with his own band. The band played at festivals such as the Open Flair Festival , Taubertal Festival and played tours in the opening act of Luxuslärm , Alex Clare , Sportfreunde Stiller and Thomas Godoj .

From 2013 Sebel worked on his second official album ( Album of Being Alone ). The songs Lied vom sein and nicht tot were released as singles in advance. It is a concept album that almost exclusively revolves around very personal and deeper experiences and thoughts from his life.

In March 2020, Sebel published a music video on Facebook and later on YouTube for his song Stand Together , in which he calls for cohesion during the Corona crisis. Soon afterwards he published versions of the title in Italian, English, French and Spanish together with other musicians.
