The Aukrug glider airfield is a glider airfield in the municipality of Aukrug . It is located on the federal highway 430 south of the Aukruger district of Bünzen.
geography
The glider airfield is located in the middle of the attractive landscape of the Aukrug Nature Park in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein . The 380 km² Aukrug nature park with its varied forest, heather and pond landscape is free of industry, is away from the noisy traffic and is only a few kilometers from the federal motorway 7 Hamburg-Kiel-Flensburg. This means you can reach the airport by car in under an hour from Hamburg and half an hour from Kiel .
Aukrug lies on the Geestrücken and offers relatively useful thermal conditions for gliding in the land between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea .
History of the airfield
The Aukruger glider club actually originated in Itzehoe . Some glider pilots find there that motor, glider and military aviation are hardly possible in one place. Alfred Havenstein, Jochen Bracker, Jürgen Schwanengel and Albert Prasch joined forces, left the Itzehoe air sports club, which had its domicile at the Hungriger Wolf Army Airfield, with some like-minded people , and set out for a new site. They found it in Aukrug after Rolf Dühlmeier from Neumünster had referred them to the area near Bünzen. Two farmers were ready to provide land.
At first an attempt was made to affiliate the glider club with TSV Aukrug. This plan had to be given up after the objection of the national association of aerosports. So on May 27, 1973, 11 gliding enthusiasts met in the restaurant Rübezahl in Aukrug-Böken and founded their own glider club.
On Ascension Day 1973, the first flight day was held with the first two gliders. Mayor Hans-August Jensen and Aukrug member of the state parliament Heinz-Wilhelm Fölster christened the first two aircraft with the names Aukrug and Schleswig-Holstein . There were many guest flights and a large influx of members began. Just 14 days later, the association had 23 members (today there are between 60 and 70 active members).
Flight operations
The club owns three two-seater and four single-seat gliders. About ten private gliders are added by individual members. With twelve flight instructors, the youngsters are trained in gliding on all flight days .
It starts with a modern winch , whose 320 hp diesel engine pulls the aircraft up into the air via electronically controlled hydraulics.
The flying season usually starts at the beginning of April and ends at the end of October. Flight operations take place on Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays. Since the airspace over Aukrug is no longer restricted by the Bundeswehr, the airfield has also been open during the week.
In the club everyone can set their individual priorities for gliding. Without weighting there are:
- Flights close to the seat to contemplate the wonderful landscape of the Aukrug Nature Park.
- "Walking flights" of a few hours over Schleswig-Holstein.
- Cross-country flights in Schleswig-Holstein , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Lower Saxony etc. (the club record is 760 kilometers).
