geography
The striking Zeugenberg is located at 191 m above sea level. NN about two kilometers south of Hemleben . It falls steeply on all sides from the oval summit plateau with a circumference of 100 meters by 250 meters about 40 meters into the flat land. Field paths lead through the agricultural areas to the surrounding towns - for example to Schillingstedt , Griefstedt with Büchel , Hemleben and Beichlingen .
Natural division
According to the division of the Thuringian State Institute for Environment and Geology , the Zeugenberg is isolated from the Hohe Schrecke – Schmücke – Finne natural area of the southern Unstrut mountain and hill country (south-east part) within the red sandstone hill country.
Prehistoric and early historical ramparts
Wall remains on the Zeugenberg testify to a prehistoric rampart . As a raised 'outpost' in flat terrain, the ramparts probably belonged to a larger rampart system of the Schmücke .
Todays use
The Zeugenberg, planted with bushes and a linden tree, is neither used for forestry nor for agriculture as a ground monument . It is freely accessible to visitors as a hiking guide destination.
