The Seguier buttercup ( Ranunculus seguieri ) is a plant type from the family Ranunculaceae (Ranunculaceae). It is named after the French botanist Jean François Séguier .

description

The Seguier buttercup is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 8 to 15 centimeters. The upright to arching stems are initially hairy white and shaggy and later become bald.

The basal leaves arise underground at a depth of about 3 to 10 centimeters. They are dark green, stalked and three to five parts down to the base with multiple, pointed-toothed leaf sections. The one to three stem leaves are similar to the basal leaves, but smaller and sometimes undivided.

One to three flowers, which are about 20 to 25 millimeters wide, are located on non-furrowed, pedicled flower stalks. The flower consists of five white, broadly egg-shaped petals and shorter, bare sepals . The five to 10 nuts are between 3 and 5 millimeters long (measured without the beak) and are between two to four millimeters wide. The spherical fruits are clearly network-nerved.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

The species is diploid, the number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The plant prefers to colonize moist, calcareous, marly rock debris in the alpine zone. They grow at altitudes of up to 2400 meters. Its main area of distribution includes the Southwest Alps and Western Alps ( Provence to Dauphiné ), Bergamasque Alps , South Tyrol and Carniola . The plant is less common in Carinthia and East Tyrol (potentially endangered here). Isolated occurrences are found in the Bernese Alps and in the southern French Jura , as well as in the central Apennines .

Subspecies

The species occurs in Europe in two subspecies:

  • Ranunculus seguieri subsp. montenegrinus (Halácsy) Tutin , occurs on the Balkan Peninsula
  • Ranunculus seguieri subsp. seguieri , occurs in Spain, Italy, the Alps of France, Switzerland, Austria and in the former Yugoslavia
