Seifertshofen is a village in the municipality of Ebershausen in the Swabian district of Günzburg . The place counts 172 inhabitants, whereby this number represents the population of the former municipality Seifertshofen. This means that this number includes the population of the village of Waltenberg .

location

The village is located about one and a half kilometers north of Ebershausen on the western edge of the Haselbach valley on the GZ 13 district road from Nattenhausen to Ebershausen .

Place name

In the course of history there were the following spellings for the place name of Seifertshofen - Sigebrechtshoven, Sibdrehshoven, Sibrachtshofen, Seybraczhofen, Seybertshofen, Seybertzhofen, Seybertzhoven - which mean "to the courts of Sigeprecht". The place name can therefore be traced back to the first name “Sigeprecht”.

history

An indication of the early settlement of the area are the prehistoric burial mound fields and Celtic square entrenchments , particularly in the forests east of the Haselbach and Gutnachtal valleys . Seifertshofen, which was first documented in 1316, was at that time for high pin-union castle Hasberg . In addition to a farm belonging to the Franciscan convent Klosterbeuren , the place changed hands several times over the centuries. First the Seifertshofer property came to the Roggenburg Abbey , then in 1581 to Jakob Fugger von Kirchberg-Weißenhorn and finally to St. Jakobspfründe in Augsburg (1695). In 1805, Seifertshofen, like the entire area between Iller and Lech, became part of Bavaria .

As part of the Bavarian territorial reform during the 1970s, the Seifertshofen community, to which the villages of Seifertshofen and Waltenberg belonged, was incorporated into Ebershausen on May 1, 1978.

Attractions

St. Ulrich Church

The small St. Ulrich church built on a hill visible from afar in the west of the village was probably built by a master from Vorarlberg in 1731 . It is possible that parts of the previous building were still used when the church was built. That would explain, on the one hand, the short construction time of just a few months and, on the other hand, the somewhat intricate appearance of the church building.

The original baroque interior of the church has largely been preserved to this day. In the church you will find several representations and figures of St. Ulrich , including on the altarpiece and the ceiling fresco by the Memmingen painter Marschner from the 1950s. During the last renovation of the church in 1991, painted altar dummies were found behind the side altars. However, it was decided to leave the side altars, which were obviously built later, in the church. A special feature is that you could only get into the pulpit from outside via a wooden staircase, which is quite large for the relatively small church.
