Player career
society
Selim Özer started his professional football career in 1991 with the third division Uzunköprüspor, a team from the district town of Uzunköprü in the Edirne province . Here he made it straight to the top team and played 31 of the 34 possible league games. After another season, in which Özer had completed all his team's league games as a performance realiner and scored ten goals, Özer became one of the most noticeable youngsters in the league. So Özer moved within the league to the provincial capital's club, Edirnespor , in the summer of 1993 . Here, too, he quickly made the leap into the regular formation. At the end of the season he and his team were champions of the 3rd league and thus rose to the second highest Turkish league, the 2nd league . In the 2nd Lig he played another season for Edirnespor and also knew how to convince in this league.
In the summer of 1995, the traditional Turkish club and first division club Bursaspor signed him . Here he enjoyed the trust of head coach Nejat Biyediç from the start . His successor Gordon Milne , who became head coach in the 1996/97 season, also relies on Özer. Thanks to his convincing performances, Özer was promoted to national coach. The season ended in 5th place in the table and thus the second-best place in the table in the club's history.
After Özer had played for Bursaspor until the spring of 1999, he switched to league rivals Trabzonspor . At this club he then played the following one and a half seasons without really being able to assert himself.
In the summer of 2000 he moved within the league to the newly promoted Yimpaş Yozgatspor . Here he immediately established himself as a regular player and played a major role in the fact that the provincial club surprisingly finished 7th in the table at the end of the season. He played another season for Yozgatspor and left the club after missing relegation.
For the 2002/03 season he moved to the first division team Malatyaspor . Here he played one half of the season and surprisingly left this club during the winter break. After he let the second half of the season elapse without a club, Özer hired for the 2003/04 season at the second division Kocaelispor .
After playing only one season at Kocaelispor, he moved to Mersin İdman Yurdu within the league . Here he played two seasons and left this club after missing relegation in summer 2006.
He then hired the fourth division club Üsküdar Anadolu in 1908 SK . Here he played for one and a half seasons and ended his active football career in spring 2008.
National team
Due to his convincing performance at Bursaspor , Özer was nominated for the Turkish national team in 1996 by the then national coach Mustafa Denizli . While he was still on the bench in the 1998 World Cup qualifier against the Belgian national team, he made his international debut a year later against the Croatian national team. For the next two years he was regularly nominated and completed five international matches.
Coaching career
Following his football career, Özer switched to coaching. His first job was the youth team at the first division club Sivasspor . Since Üsküdar Anadolu 1908 SK was Sivasspor's second team since the mid-2000s, Özer moved to this club as a junior coach. In 2009 he took over the assistant coach at Giresunspor .
In spring 2012 he became assistant coach at Bozüyükspor and worked in this position until the end of the season. For the 2012/13 season he took over as head coach of his old club Üsküdar Anadolu 1908 SK . For the new season Özer moved within the league to Elibol Sandıklıspor .
