Nenad Bijedić or Nejat Biyediç (born September 24, 1959 in Mostar , Yugoslavia , † August 15, 2011 in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina ) was a Bosnian football player and coach with a Turkish passport.

Career

As a player

Bijedić played for FK Velež Mostar for seven years before moving to Bursaspor in 1986 . With 17 goals in one season for Bursaspor, he went down in club history as the club's most dangerous player. In the years in which he played for the club, he was called "Imperator" because of his good performances. He was also famous for his free kicks and hard shots.

Bijedić played four consecutive seasons for Bursaspor and came in 125 games in which he scored 41 goals.

In addition, he was also the first foreign player to captain the team. At the beginning of the 1990/91 season he ended his football career at the age of 31, but returned for one season after the poor results at Bursaspor.

As a trainer

In 1994 Bijedić returned to Bursaspor as assistant coach to Nevzat Güzelırmak . When Nevzat Güzelırmak resigned his position at Bursaspor due to poor results, Bijedić was the club's head coach and finished the season in 6th place.

In the 1995/96 season, Bijedić caused a stir with his transfers. He got players like Ivko Gançev , Elvir Baljiç , Majid Musisi or Ercüment Şahin and achieved successful results. In sixth place in the Spor Toto Süper Lig , the club qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup, which was held for the first time . In the group stage they defeated Wimbledon FC 4: 0, Beitar Jerusalem 2: 0, Sporting Charleroi 2: 0 and played a draw against MFK Košice , so the team made it to the finals in first place in their group.

In the second round, the team won 2-1 against the Greek first division club OFI Kreta and met Karlsruher SC in the quarter-finals . Regular time ended 2-2 and extra time 3-3. After 120 minutes there was still no known winner, so the penalty shoot-out had to decide. Karlsruhe won the penalty shoot-out 9: 8 and threw Bursaspor out of the competition.

After his time at Bursaspor he coached many other clubs but did not achieve any success with them.

In 2008, Bijedić was diagnosed with leukemia and left football for the time being. After a long break, he returned and founded the DOSAB-Nejat Biyediç Futbol Akademisi football school in collaboration with Demirtaş Organize Sanayi Bölgesi (DOSAB).

After his condition worsened, he quit football and was treated in Turkey. After a long treatment, he decided ten days before his death to fly to his homeland, Mostar . There he lived with his father in his own house. He was rushed to hospital on August 14 and died the following day, August 15, 2011. Bijedić was buried in his hometown of Mostar.
