Ercüment Şahin (born October 1, 1968 in Bülach , Switzerland ) is a former Swiss - Turkish football player and coach. Despite his only one and a half year activity for Bursaspor , he is associated with this club. On the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the more important players in club history.

Player career

society

Ercüment Şahin was born in 1968 as the son of Turkish guest workers in Bülach, Switzerland. Here he began playing football in the youth departments of various amateur clubs. He later switched to FC Bülach's youth team . Here he was promoted to the first team at the appropriate age and a little later gained a regular place. Through his performances at FC Bülach, several clubs in the upper leagues became aware of Şahin. In the summer of 1988 he moved to the second highest Swiss league, the National League B to relegated FC Zurich . Already in his second season at FC Zurich, the season 1989/90 Şahin reached with his team, the runner-up of League and the direct promotion to the National League A .

After Şahin played for FC Zurich until the summer of 1991, he moved within the league to FC Chiasso . For this club he played for two years and left the club after the failed relegation in the summer of 1993. For the 1993/94 season he returned to his former club FC Zurich. Here he played two more seasons and became one of the most successful strikers in the league.

Through his many goals in the Swiss Lia, Turkish clubs also became aware of Şahin. After he was associated with many clubs, the western Turkish first division side Bursaspor signed him . In this club, Şahin immediately formed a successful offensive team with Magid Musisi and Elvir Baljić . In the pre-season UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1995 , they finished the group stage confidently as first in Group 10. Şahin contributed a large part of the goals. In the last sixteen they met the Greek representative OFI Crete and defeated them 2-1. Şahin managed to score the 1: 1 equalizer in the meantime. In the quarter-finals they met Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC . The match played in front of the home crowd became one of the most thrilling and legendary matches in the club's history. In the game Karlsruhe took the lead with a goal from Thomas Häßler in the 26th minute. Regular time later ended 2-2. In stoppage time, Şahin took a 3-2 lead with a well-aimed shot. The shot was so violent that it tore the goal net and hit the advertising wall. This hit made Şahin immortal among Bursaspor fans. Karlsruhe equalized five minutes before the end of the game. The game decided Karlsruhe after penalties 9: 8 for themselves.

With this successful start at Bursaspor, Şahin raised the expectations of the fans very high. During the season he formed one of the most successful striker duos in the league with his strike partner Magid Musisi. Şahin scored 12 goals while Mususi scored 13 times. The season was rather mixed for Bursaspor and they ended the season somewhat disappointing in 9th place in the table. The successful coach Nejat Biyediç was dismissed after the 28th matchday after a 2: 4 defeat by Kocaelispor and replaced by Sinan Bür until the end of the season .

For the season 1996/97 , the club's board hired the British Gordon Milne as a coach. Şahin initially played regularly under this coach. In the course of the season, the relationship between the two tightened, so that the club management suggested Şahin to switch to another club as a loan player. Şahin agreed and left the club at the end of November 1996 in the direction of league competitor Altay Izmir . At this club Şahin got a regular place and met once in 20 league encounters.

Since his contract with Bursaspor expired at the end of the season and no contract extension came about, Şahin reached an agreement with the first division club Vanspor . For this club he played for a season in the Süper Lig and then relegated to the TFF 1st Lig . Here you reached the end of the 1998/99 season, the second division championship and thus the direct return to the highest Turkish league. Şahin had a large share in this success with 15 goals in 29 league encounters.

After this promotion in the summer of 1999, he played half a season for Vanspor and then moved to the second division side Kombassan Konyaspor . Here you reached the play-off phase of the TFF 1st Lig at the end of the season and missed promotion to the first division with the quarter-finals. This situation was repeated in the following season.

For the 2001/02 season he moved to the third division Sarıyer SK and played here for a season. He then returned to Switzerland to his old club FC Bülach , played here for an indefinite period and then ended his professional football career.

National team

Due to his shown performances at Bursaspor , Şahin was nominated by the then national coach Mustafa Denizli as part of a friendly against Moldova in the squad of the Turkish national team . In this game of August 14, 1996 he played from the beginning and completed his first and only international match.

Coaching career

After the end of his football career, he switched to coaching and his first job was the post of assistant coach at the fourth division club Izmirspor . Here he assisted his former teammate Levent Devrim , with whom he played at Bursaspor and Konyaspor . He then looked after İnegölspor with Devrim .

In March 2008 he took over the post of assistant coach at the second division Eskişehirspor and assisted his old coach Nejat Biyediç . The 2007/08 season ended as a play-off winner and thus achieved promotion to the Süper Lig. After Biyediç left the club at the end of the season due to illness, Şahin also separated from this. In October he took over the post of head coach at an amateur club and looked after it for two years.

From the spring of 2010 he worked again as assistant coach to Levent Devrim and looked after Kayseri Erciyesspor and TKİ Tavşanlı Linyitspor . In 2014 he then moved to league competitor Orduspor together with Levent Devrim . The move to Switzerland took place in 2014, where he was an assistant coach at FC Aarau (2015/2016 season) and FC Wil (2016/2017 season) in the Challenge League .

Since July 2017, he has been the head coach of FC Zurich's U17s .
